Is it a sin for Christian women to wear pants?

Apparently, amongst some Christian communities, there is a hotly debated topic about whether it is sin for Christian women to wear pants. As it is understood the controversy comes from two verses namely:

1 Timothy 2:9-10 Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

Deuteronomy 22:5 A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.

In the New Testament you have women being admonished to ‘adorn themselves… with modesty’ and to wear what is ‘proper for women who profess godliness.’ In Deuteronomy men and women are being commanded to not wear what pertains to the opposite sex. Some have taken these verses together to arrive at the conclusion that pants are fundamentally a man’s garment leaving dresses and skirts as the only permitted garments for Christian women to wear modestly.

While The Modest Fitting loves to see women don beautiful dresses and skirts, it’s not our conviction that Christian women are permitted to only wear these. We believe the Lord is just as pleased to see one of his daughters in a modest pair of culottes, pants, or trousers designed for the woman and her special anatomy as He is to see her in a beautifully modest skirt.
